REMYCA 3-0 Atherton Laburnum Rovers

Hallmark Security League Division One

Saturday 6th August, Litherland Sports Park

Litherland REMYCA got their season off to a solid start with an impressive looking 3-0 win over Atherton LR at a sun drenched Litherland Sports Park.

The game started brightly for Remy with some good early play, keeping LR on the back foot from the kick off.

The first chance fell to striker, Colin Quirk whose shot struck the side netting.  Shortly after a shot from McGrane shot was saved comfortably by the LR keeper. Atherton were struggling to get a hold in the game as Remy plied plenty of pressure on to try and get the opener and as a result it wasn't long in coming.  A great move as the ball was played down the right from midfield into the path of Michael Boyle who tricked his way past the full back before a great cross into the box, up rose Tom Foley to head past the keeper to put the Remy one up.

REMYCA continued to press with LR limited to the odd long ball into REMYCA territory. Boyle, McGrane and Gannon all dragging shots wide as Remy tried to get the second. It almost came as McGrane beat the full back down the left hand side and pulled the ball back to Foley, but the strikers shot was saved by the keeper.

It was the last seconds of the half when Remy made it 2-0 when a great cross field ball from Quirk was side foot volleyed into the net by McGrane right on half time. Remy went in 2-0 to the good in a deserved HT lead.

It was much the same at the start of the second half as Remy dominated possession with Carroll in the REMYCA goal an observer for most of the game. It seemed only a matter of time before Remy scored again and it was Quirk who got the 3rd when he found himself through on the keeper he chipped the ball over him and then struck the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3.

At this point REMYCA were well on top and Jake Connor stung the LR keepers hands with a fierce strike from 20 yard which the keeper tipped over. The following corner came in and Gannon headed over. Another corner saw a rare chance for Captain King as the ball fell to him on the half volley only to see it blocked and cleared. Shaun Harris also saw a shot narroly over the top as Remy pressed.

Two of the REMYCA under 18s were introduced during the second half as Murphy and McKevitt both made their debuts and both got into the action straight away. Some great work down the left by McKevitt almost had the 16 year old in on goal as a last ditch tackle stopped him in his tracks. Then there was almost the icing on the cake and a goal made right from the youth as Gannon put in McKevitt down the left the youngster crossed for Murphy to half volley home at the near post only for the assistant to flag for offside as the youngster celebrated what he thought was a dream goal. REMYCA continued to push but couldn't make the pressure tell. A good start for the lads with some of the younger lads get good minutes on the pitch. On to Cheadle on Wednesday now which always proves a tough game.
